My fifth grade students include regular education students, English Language Learners, and several Inclusion students. My students learn in many different ways. I teach English Language Arts in a rural area, where many students are living in a low socioeconomic status family. I currently only have 24 Chromebooks and 27 students in my largest class. With this generation being technology driven, Chromebooks are a necessity. This will allow me to have the necessary technology for each student and promote a positive learning environment so that I can reach ALL my students.
On a daily basis we use Chromebooks for bellwork, vocabulary activities, reading, and writing.
So, technology is a necessity for my 5th grade classroom. We use a program called Google Classroom, where I can provide feedback on the students' work and they can see the feedback on their assignments to revise them. I also frequently use Google Translate to translate words to target my English Language Learners in my classroom.
My Project
My students are driven by technology, and this Chromebook will enhance their learning in my ELA classroom. I will be able to use this technology to provide digital feedback on students writing, assessments, and projects. We will also use this Chromebook to take all of our assessments for the year. We use technology daily to complete our bellwork, vocabulary activities, writing, and interventions/enrichment activities. We use Google Classroom as well to post assignments and also give quick and effective feedback. We also use Chromebooks to complete research projects, make powerpoints, and conduct silent discussions. My students also enjoy playing educational games on their Chromebooks such as Kahoot, Vocabulary Jam, etc. Without enough Chromebooks, our daily tasks are hard to accomplish.
