Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a true neighborhood school dedicated to the growth and development of Sunset Park’s children. Many of the students were born overseas or have parents that were. More than a third of the population is classified as English language learners. Our nurturing culture gives kids a friendly home in their new country while practicing some of the most progressive, child-centered teaching in Brooklyn.
To say that these young English Language Learners are hardworking is an understatement.
The awesome mathematicians in this room show that they are eager and excited to learn.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. During whole-group instruction, it is important that our active students are able to sit and focus. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk or the floor.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
The Crazy Creek chairs have adjustable straps and will fit students of varying sizes. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just can't control the wiggles. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
