Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher with 50 amazing middle schoolers. My students are incredibly sweet and engaging young people who love to read. We are working on learning how to find "just right" books for all students.
My students are curious and engaged learners who are excited about coming to school each and every day.
We are working on building a strong school culture where students feel supported meeting their educational goals as well as their social emotional goals. My classroom is a space where I hope students feel comfortable being their true selves.
My Project
My students are absolutely wild for graphic novels. The graphic novels bin in my classroom library is empty right now because students love all of them so much and have checked out every single one. Students are clamoring for more and more graphic novels.
Independent reading is an essential part of creating lifelong readers and graphic novels help give English Language Learners access to texts.
In order for me as a teacher to help better support my students, I need to provide them with books that get them excited about reading. Graphic novels are an amazing way to get students hooked into the love of reading!
