Pearl Sample is a small school of about 614 students. It is located in a rural close-knit community. The school is a genuinely diverse group of students coming from a variety of backgrounds. The school is a title one school. Most of the students have limited exposure to the world outside of our town and a large percent of the student's families struggle financially. We are striving to meet the needs of our students every day and provide them with the experiences they may not get otherwise.
Students will learn about electricity and circuits by investigating conductors and insulators with Makey Makey and then create their own paper circuits that will light up.
The student will be able to:
-Apply the terms insulators, conductors, open and closed in describing electrical circuits.
- Differentiate between an open and closed electric circuit.
-Differentiate between conductor and insulator
-Create a functioning circuit using copper tape, 3 volt battery, Halloween template/Winter template and 2 LED bulbs
-Create a functioning parallel circuit using copper tape, 3-volt battery, template, LED bulb
Activity I: (30 Min)
* Students will hypothesize whether items are insulators or conductors
Hook up Makey Makey
* Practice completing circuits using Makey Makey and the following apps
* Compare various items to determine whether they are conductors or insulators.
* Go to the website makeymakey.com/piano
* Use various materials to determine whether the item is a conductor or insulator.
