Crazy a Bot You, TOO

My students need current and high interest print resources to foster their love of robots and reading!

My Students

My students had the opportunity to work with several different types of robots last school year. They were very excited about this opportunity. They learned how robots are used in our society, the history of robots, and how to use the block coding language to control the robots while building cooperation and teamwork.

My students are hardworking, energetic, and open-minded problem solvers who love to explore new things!

They work together tenaciously to solve problems and help each other.

Living in a rural community, most of these students have been in the same classes for many years, so they are more like family members. They are so excited about learning and sharing ideas!

My Project

As the media specialist, I would love to keep this school-wide robotics momentum building by supplying additional STEM resources to our students, teachers, and community. I would like for them to be able to utilize corresponding resources such as books and coding software during the entire school year in order to prepare for the demands of the 21st century.

My students are super excited about learning all the different ways robots and related technologies are infused into our society.

However, we currently do not have the supporting print resources we need to build our program. Most of our resources are either outdated or very limited in pertinent content.

I think we can foster a deeper love of reading by providing greater access to and a wider variety of texts related to robotics which reach all students at all grade levels. Our students and teachers would then be able to understand and teach how technology has touched every corner of our lives.

By marrying use of robots with content reading through various disciplines, and making sure books are available that are relevant to robotics, students are more likely to go a step beyond. I am requesting a collection of books related to the field of robotics.

Having the hands-on application allows for a variety of methods to be used to think critically and problem solve. Using the added resources in conjunction with this hands-on approach will allow for deeper understanding of the topic.

Information about these resources could be shared in a variety of ways such as with book talks and casual conversations and through a digital means.

By utilizing robots in elementary classrooms with additional media center resources, students' interest will be piqued in learning STEM subjects, thus preparing them for careers in the STEM fields, making them productive members of the 21st century.
