Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are awesome! They see the world full of color but they are limited to only basic white paper. Art is an important part of our curriculum. Drawing, painting, water-coloring, cutting and gluing are not only enjoyable, but also provide opportunities for my students to learn using their fine motor skills.

I have 120+ English Language Learners eager to learn any curriculum through art but we lack the supplies needed to teach them the what art has to offer.

I want to empower my students by teaching art throughout their curriculum. My students come from a low, socioal-economic background. We are a Title One, Performance Improvement school, with one hundred percent participation in the free lunch program. I have some single parent homes who are working two jobs and are struggling to support their family. Even though my students come from a low-income school, parents provide their basic needs, leaving no more for art supplies. My students are eager artist who need the basic equipment to produce amazing art! I know if we provide them with the essential art supplies and linked it to their academics, we are empowering students to discover their artistic talents.

My Project

My students will be using the resources stated in my project throughout my students' curriculum like science and mathematics. My students have learned that art is an important part of our curriculum but we lack the supplies to create masterpieces or we simply run out. I want my students to be able to draw pictures that will match their math problems in ratios. I want them to express their way of thinking through color. Give them the ability to paint water cycles when learning about earth science. Color coordinate when learning about weather. Drawing, coloring, painting, cutting and pasting are not only enjoyable, but also provide opportunities for students to continue learning and demesnrtate their learning.

The donations given to my classroom will improve my students' learning experience by linking art to other subject areas, making learning more engaged and meaningful to them.

This project will empower my students through art and expose them to the different styles of learning through art. This project will change my students' lives by the better because they will not be limited to a twelve-color box of crayons but will finally have the chance to explore their artistic ability.
