Hello, I am a first grade teacher in the Bronx, NY. I am a recent Teach For America alumni. TFA's goal is to help close the achievement gap that exists today in many areas. Although I am done with my 2 year commitment, I have chosen to stay for a third year at my school because I love what I do. This year, I have 29 great students! As the holiday season approaches, I was thinking of what my kids would want. I usually give my students books every year. However, this year I wanted to give them something additional purely for their pleasure and enjoyment. I have a box of Crayola Overwriters and I use them in class for our posters. My students get so excited each time I use them, and think that it is the COOLEST thing to be able to write over other colors. They all beg me for a chance to use these markers. I would love to get each child their own box of these markers. Not only will they love them, but they will be able to use them for class projects. If each student has their own, it can teach them responsibility and provide them with a sense of ownership. And most importantly, they will just have the excitement and pleasure of owning these "cool" markers!
