Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third graders attend a public school in an urban district. It is a Title I school and 100% of the students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. Coming from an urban district and a Title I school, unfortunately, my students do not have as many supplies and opportunities as the surrounding districts.
This year I have 25 inquisitive and eager students, many of whom are not on grade level but are always ready to learn.
My students are full of energy and their creativity shines through in all of the work that they do. They soak up everything you put out.
My goal is to make their school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations and providing a safe, loving environment for all of my students no matter their circumstances. Your donations mean more than you will ever fully understand!
My Project
My students live in a world that relies on technology. Many of my students are better at using an iPhone or iPad, then they are at finding a word in the dictionary or the table of contents in a book. Do I necessarily agree with this? No. Do I think times have changed? Yes, and our kids need to be ready. What better way then to incorporate reading and math skills with computer skills?
My students are eager to learn and are little sponges.
However, keeping their attention with outdated materials and computers makes it challenging. My classroom has been fortunate enough to already receive a few Chromebooks but it makes it very hard to get twenty-five students on six capable pieces of technology. My hope is to eventually have enough pieces of technology for each student.
My students will utilize these computers to practice daily math and literacy skills, research topics of interest, chart growth, for daily center rotations and for the mandated district programs. The Clorox wipes will help us keep the mice, headphones and keyboards clean and germ free. They will be gently wiped down at the end of each day to keep from spreading bacteria. I believe this project will allow my students to flourish in areas of weakness and appeal to all different types of learners as well as teach them 21 century skills and responsibility.
