My students come from a high poverty area where it is difficult for some of our families to afford educational materials. Many of our students receive government assistance for breakfast and lunch.
I have 23 incredible students, making up a diverse group of beautiful little minds that are eager to learn.
Within my group, I have a fantastic variety of learning styles – each with their own, special combination!
These wonderful children create a diverse population within our classroom, coming from a variety of backgrounds, and each with specific needs. My learners have a significant range of abilities, yet all of them come to school ready to challenge themselves and make the most of each day.
My Project
In order to be successful in this day and age, students must develop strong technical skills that will help them in the world they are growing up in. Currently, my classroom does not have enough technology available. My students are required to spend a significant amount of time working on math and reading programs online each week. Some students struggle to meet this expectation due to our limited technology. Many of my incredible students do not have computers or tablets at home, making their time at school the only time they are able to access the Internet and online learning-based programs.
I want to make sure that each of my students has access to resources that they need to make their time at school as productive as possible.
As a teacher in a high poverty school, I witness our students experience many challenges, in and out of their time at school.
This Chromebook will allow my students to grow as independent and engaged learners. These children need this technology in order to build on the 21st-century skills that they will need to be successful in life. In addition, our school uses online learning programs that require students to be engaged on computers for at least 90 minutes per week. Because very few students have the resources or support to get this time at home, we need every opportunity to access this technology at school.
Students will also use this Chromebook to complete essays, projects, presentations, conduct research, and develop their computer skills.
