My Students

I am very lucky to work with the diverse group of children in our high needs autism program. My students have so many gifts. They are sensitive, energetic and passionate. My students view the world through a unique lens, and that insight is beneficial to everyone. They just need some help developing the social and communication skills so they can share their gifts with the world.

My students brains are wired differently than most, and that is beautiful.

However, they are often not able to filter out the many sights, sounds and movements that are happening all around them. Sometimes, they become overwhelmed. Part of my job is teaching my students strategies to help them calm their minds and bodies.

My Project

Sometimes my students are overwhelmed by all that is going on around them. Information moving throughout their brains becomes stuck - as if in a traffic jam.

Do you remember the last time your were stuck in a traffic jam?

Did you feel frustrated, impatient, upset, angry? Imagine how a child feels when he or she is stuck. Children with autism are learning coping strategies to help them through times like this.

Using this requested Skil-Care Crash Pad is a safe strategy to help my children cope with the frequent frustration that results from their disability. Students can play or relax on this cushy mat.

Because of your generosity, my amazing students will have a safe, effective tool to help them calm their minds and bodies. Then they will be one step closer to sharing their unique gifts with all of us!
