Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and amazing kids from the south side of Chicago. Most of the kids I teach are faced with challenges in their lives, both at home and at school. As their music teacher, I hope to help my students by encouraging them to express themselves in positive ways.
My students love music class because they get a chance to share a creative experience with their peers.
Our school is run on a bare bones budget, and funding for the arts is just not there. Your donation would help to provide a quality musical experience for deserving students.
My Project
Drumming is good for the mind, the body, and the soul. My students have been drumming in general music class for years. This spring, we are bringing the fun to a new level: an after school drumline for 6th, 7th and 8th graders!
Drumline will challenge my students to work together, and will give them a place to belong.
We have acquired one bass drum thanks to the generosity of donors on this site, but a drumline needs at least two. In this project I am requesting a smaller bass drum to complement the one we have, so that my students' small stature won't disqualify them from playing this important part.
Two sets of marching cymbals will make our group sound great, and will give two more students the opportunity to join the ensemble!
Kids are clamoring to join drumline, and are so excited to play at school events. This group will give kids who might not excel academically or athletically something to be proud of.
