Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The excitement of "Fun Friday" isn't just once a week...it's every day. This year my students requested more STEAM such as science and art experiments as well as computer activities. Many of our new resources are used on a daily basis during STEM and free-choice time.
My students come to school with many concerns outside of their control so, in our classroom, we utilize teamwork and social skills to the fullest potential.
Our school is a small school making a big difference for students who have been placed in our building for various personal/private reasons. Many of them do not have "typical" experiences prior to entering the school system. Here, they receive additional resources and opportunities such as a smaller class size, as well as strategies for social and emotional learning in addition to academic skills.
My Project
My multi-age self-contained classroom is made up of students in grades K-3 and they LOVE learning new skills. I continue to make and aquire new manipulatives to keep the curriculum fast-paced and interesting to my active learners.
I would like to purchase several types of building blocks, manipulatives, and STEM based items for my students and their siblings.
They are making progress in their daily learning and I intend to allow families to borrow some of these materials. The benefit of a multi-age classroom is that families get to know their teachers and bringing home items becomes more of a family-night activity rather than a homework assignment that will get lost. Last year, students borrowed (and returned responsibly) books, math manipulatives, power pens, 3D pens, board games, etc.
For this project, we are going to add kinetic sand, Bristle Blocks, Wedgits, Boomwhackers, fidget snakes, more Spot It games, and Clorox Wipes (to keep these materials fresh). These items have been used by students with visiting teachers or requested after seeing media commercials. The students and I appreciate your support as we maintain a variety of materials to use in class and borrow for home use.
