My students are four-year-old preschool students who are attending school full day. This is a new experience for all of the students and their families. They are in school for 7 hours a day. All students want to learn, laugh and play in school. The students who are attending school come from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In addition, many of the students have diverse learning needs.
Although there are many differences in language, culture and learning needs, they all have more in common than not.
They love to learn, find joy in playing and have families who want to provide the best education for their children.
The love of school and learning should last well beyond preschool. Providing fun, caring, adventurous, exciting and hands-on experiences in these critical early years will set them off on the right foot to success and continued enjoyment in learning for years to come!
My Project
As we return to school for the new year we will be doing a study of clothing. We will be learning all about different types of clothing, clothing from different cultures, what we wear for the weather, how we take care of our clothes, and how clothes are made. We will be using the tie dye kits and white t-shirts to allow each child to make their own shirt. My students are going to be so excited to make their own t-shirts using the tie dye kits!
As we study clothes, we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.
We will also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test our ideas. We will be exploring fabrics, textures, patterns, construction of clothing, and using STEM concepts to explore clothing.
We will be using the hats, monkeys, and LED tree to make a sensory bin based on the book, "Caps for Sale" and we will be using the animals, LED tree, and white mittens for a sensory bin based on the book, "The Mitten."
