This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come in eager to please and be loved. They want to be recognized for achievements through "shout-outs" and rewards. They are funny and playful. The relationships and family atmosphere we create in the classroom is always the highlight of my school year.
My school is located in the South side of Chicago.
The neighborhood is known for violence and poverty. The school is 100% free or reduced lunch. It not only creates a safe haven, but also teaches the students to look beyond their surroundings and reach for higher goals. We are not just trying to get them into great high schools, but great colleges.
My Project
Like many schools, our school has had to cut back on its art program. This is devastating to the students since so many of them used art class as their outlet. I am going to provide time in the school day to still have that outlet, but I need some resources to do it!
The art bins will have pipe cleaners, pony beads, pom poms, wiggle googly eyes, and other items to make imaginations soar!
The remaining items in this project include tons of pencils (a need in all subjects) and some resource books to help make my lessons more lively!
