Our school is a Title I school in which every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. We provide a safe learning environment in which teachers can challenge their students to be the best that they can be.
Our students arrive to school every day with the motivation to work hard and succeed in all that they do.
Unfortunately, our school has minimal resources and supplies for the students to truly be able to explore the mathematical concepts being taught. Both parents and teachers work hard to help every child succeed by providing what resources they can.
My Project
Our school is a very unique school, as students in grades 1-6 must attend an enrichment program after school from 3:10 to 4:50. During this time, students usually have the option of a variety of different activities, such as swimming (at the local swim center), cooking, typing, drawing, sports, curriculum, and so on.
Unfortunately, due to severe budget cuts, students are no longer able to have an option.
Drawing is run with little to no supplies, swimming was cut, sports are based on what few pieces of gym equipment we have, and the list goes on.
I would love to be able to run an enrichment unit to teach my students how to knit and crochet. The goal is to be able to create a classroom blanket from the squares they create. They would also be using the variety of different art supplies to create artwork to display around the school.
