Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would like to start a craft club for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to help heighten their self-esteem and cooperation skills. Each week I would meet with 15-25 students and complete a craft project. The projects would either be given away to a charitable organization or taken home by each student to be enjoyed. My hope is that each child will be gaining more self-esteem as he/she completes each project and sees for themselves that - "I can do it!" They will also be learning the cooperation skills needed to complete each task.
I am a third grade teacher at PS 75 in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We are considered a low performing, hard to staff public school, where over 90% of our students receive free lunch.
I would like to purchase paints, small craft kits, yarn, and weaving looms and loops. Some other supplies would include tee shirts and dye for a tie-dyeing craft.
This craft club will instill the self-esteem that many of our students need. It will also strengthen cooperation within this small community of club members.
