I am a 5th grade teacher in a school that is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. I teach in a departmentalized program, so I see the students for mathematics and science instruction. The students I work with come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. More than half of the students in my building come from low income households.
Many of them are new to our country and are just learning the language.
Many of them live in single-parent households. In addition to these challenges, many of them have special needs. Despite the many challenges they face, all of my students deserve the best throughout the school day!
My Project
My students and I were very lucky to receive a Cricut machine from a previous project! In addition to utilizing the Cricut in my classroom, I also have a STEAM club! Once a week I meet with a group of students from grades 3, 4, & 5!
With the Cricut machine, we have decided to create items that will motivate and inspire others.
We will be crafting unique items that will be used by others to create a positive environment throughout our school. These items may include, posters with positive quotes or t-shirts with motivational inscriptions. We need more supplies for our machine-such as vinyl and cardstock. This project combines social emotional learning, and STEAM aspects! The students are very excited to begin making our school a more positive place-we just need more supplies to get started!
