Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a self-contained special education teacher at the high school level. This means I not only teach all academic subjects, but also need to include elective courses such art, PE and music into my day. My students are phenomenal. They have a desire to learn and love doing craft projects. Many of my students come from low income homes and cannot afford to buy gifts for parents or other family members. Additionally, many students require hand over hand assistance while completing craft projects.
My Project
My students love doing art projects, however, we do not have any supplies. They enjoy painting projects for holidays and gifts for their family members. As a special education teacher, I do not have a budget from the school for art supplies. Many of my students come from low income households, so parents are unable to assist sending in supplies.
We need these canvases, paints and brushes to continue making our masterpieces!
Many of my students struggle with gross/fine motor control, so the classroom staff uses hand over hand to paint or foam brushes for modifications. Staff also draws on the canvas and outline areas by color, so students can fill in by color.
