The classrooms you will be supporting include inclusion special education preschool classroom, and inclusion Kindergarten classrooms. These students primary reside in Kahuku and the surrounding community on Oahu North Shore.
The students this project will be supporting, have been greatly impacted by Covid and require many opportunities to build literacy, communication and social skills with their peers in a variety of settings.
My Project
Thank you for your interest in supporting literacy and communication for our inclusion preschool, kindergarten and six grade classrooms! Our pre-school and kindergarten students meet weekly for reading buddies. During that time, our six grade students read aloud books and complete a craft with their Kindergarten or Pre-school reading buddy.
Creating a craft related to the stories being read aloud by a six grade buddy creates crucial comprehension, and communication foundational skills for our early learners!
Conversations about the craft, and following step by step instructions from an older student allows for questioning and answering and sequencing skills for pre-reading skills.
