Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher at a Title I School in New Jersey with a diverse student population of 1,236. I wish to provide my students with an interactive curriculum that teaches the history of the United States through experiential learning.
Throughout the year, students aim to challenge history by developing and asking the hard questions regarding our nation's past.
We approach this obstacle by learning social studies through a multitude of documents, pictures and videos to make history come alive!
As an urban school district, funding is an issue. I would appreciate any support that you could offer in funding resources so that my students can have an enriched, historical experience before they head off to the high school!
My Project
The components that I am asking for will be used to create an escape room that will help revolutionize the learning process for my students. During these activities, students will have to work together to solve different types of problems by putting themselves in the shoes of historical people. The obstacles of the escape room are the variety of locks that I have asked for, which will be sealing off the lock box given to each group until the members can crack the code! This type of activity not only helps kids develop collaborative skills, but also allows them to utilize their problem-solving abilities in an exciting atmosphere.
The escape room evolves with the use of invisible ink markers and UV flashlights that gives my students the opportunity to channel their imagination for academic purposes.
No longer will learning only be about what my students can see with their own two eyes, but now they must utilize tools to break down the information in order to crack the combo for each lock, open the box, and escape the room!
