My students need 25 copies of the book "Eggs" by Jerry Spinelli for whole class literature circle.

What do eggs and smiles have in common? You can crack an egg and you can crack a smile - and you can crack a good book! I am a third/fourth grade teacher in an inner city school.

Inner city students have consistently performed lower on state reading assessments over the years. District administrators and politicians are quick to swoop in to change failing programs year after year. What they are not qualified to realize is that kids learn to read by just reading good books (not textbooks) and having conversations about their reading. We have been doing this in our class and our scores are skyrocketing!

I have many titles in my class sets of books but I will have many of the same students next year as I make the move from third to fourth grade. As a result, I will need to read all new titles next year for whole class literature circles. "Eggs" by Jerry Spinelli has been a favorite independent read by some students and we would like to read it in fourth grade based upon recommendations.

By donating to this project, you will assist in continuing our cycle of reading and conversing about quality literature and sustaining lifelong reading habits in my students.
