Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think about your favorite place to read as a child. I want to provide my students with fun and comfy places to read in the classroom! My students are working very hard to become strong readers! We are accomplishing reading goals every day during our silent reading time.
My school is an innovative and progressive place for children to learn!
We do not use worksheets, but instead integrate art and drama into everything we do. The students at my school are strong, resilient and admirable young people. They come from a community built on family values that instill the importance of education! My students face many challenges from living in poverty, yet they come to school everyday willing to learn and do their best work. They strive to achieve their best and are always longing to learn more. I want my students to feel like their classroom is a fun, safe, home-away-from-home place for learning. With your help, I can give my students a fun and cozy place to snuggle up with a good book!
My Project
These chairs will be used during our silent reading time. In 3rd grade we spend a lot of time reading, thinking about and writing about our books! Many times students will be able to enjoy their book more if they have an opportunity to enjoy it in a comfy spot of their choice. We used to use reading rugs and pillows, but we recently had to throw out our pillows due to a lice outbreak. These new beanbags will be fun and relaxing for the students, but will be more sanitary and easier to clean than pillows!
This project will make a difference because it will make the students excited and eager to read independently.
It will also help the students maintain focus and responsibility during reading time by being a privilege that can be lost temporarily. The cozy bean bag chairs will give the students and fun and comfortable place to read!
