This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a low-income, urban school. It is so important to me that I am able to reach students in multiple ways. Every year is an exciting new adventure, but funds are low and only getting lower. I hope to make this experience as beneficial and engaging as possible!
The boys and girls in my classroom come from many different backgrounds, and I plan to create an unique environment that allows students to learn in the a variety of different ways.
Most of my students are faced with challenges every day. However, they come to school happy and eager to learn. It is a joy to be a part of their lives and I only hope to enhance them!
My Project
Every year I see my children come in and out of school with empty heads and frozen hands. I am hoping that this year I can support my children in being dressed for the winter. I work an extended learning time school. Which means my students are in school for long hours and leave school in the bitter cold. It is already getting dark out side when my students dismiss at 4:20. I would love to see them dismissing warmly. I also think it will help for the days that its not to cold and they can play outside as long as they are warm,
I also truly believe that children can not learn if they are hungry.
Some students only meals are at school. When we have a longer day I think it is vital that students receive a snack in the afternoon to keep them going. I have noticed my students' energy levels drop in the afternoon and find it a great opportunity for a fun chapter book read aloud and snack break.
