Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an energetic and inquisitive group of third graders. My students attend an inner city public school. Teaching children in the inner city is rewarding and has taught me so much about teaching and life. Unfortunately, I also see how my students are not given access to the same resources as some of our neighboring communities. How can we close gaps with limited resources, and a growing list of requirements? Please help me provide my students with the resources and education they deserve!
My Project
Providing my students with a warming and comfortable seating environment will allow me to reach the various learning styles, and needs of my diverse classroom. The flexible seating options and organization components I've chosen for my students include donut cushions, storage book bins for their personal supplies, and sounds protection headphones all from Amazon. The flexible seating would be used every day to allow students the ability to sit where they learn best and provide them with choice in their daily learning. The storage would allow students to still have a space to store their essential work item.
Classrooms that are student centered are successful and support the learning process!
Each and every one of my students IS important. One size does NOT fit ALL! My students are required to sit for long periods of time in traditional desk and chair setup. While this arrangement works for most students, there are many students who struggle to remain engaged. I would love to be able to provide my students with comfortable seating options so they have the opportunity to move and wiggle when needed with minimal distraction. I would also like my students to have some ownership in our space and feel that our classroom is a second home. For so many of my students school is a safe haven and should be a place that meets their needs.
The research is still limited but what has been seen is an improvement in academics when students have more choice in their seating options. I've personally seen this as we are transitioning into a flexible seating classroom environment!
