This year, I have the pleasure of guiding an amazing group of 5th graders into academic success!
My students are energetic, hardworking, and eager to learn!
They amaze me with their insightful class discussions and with their desire to become proficient readers!
However, teaching a group of 30 children in an inclusive classroom comes with its challenges. Many of my students have trouble focusing, so its important for me to come up with engaging, hands-on and interactive lessons that keep these kiddos invested in their learning. To accommodate the different abilities and personalities in our room it's important that I have a range of chapter books on different genres and levels as well as comfortable areas in our classroom which encourage learners to get trapped in the pages of a book.
Nothing excites a teacher more than hearing their students discuss and break apart a novel like its the latest episode of a popular TV program. In literature circles, small groups of students gather together to discuss a piece of literature in depth. The discussion is guided by students' response to what they are reading.
I want my students to fall in love with reading and in order to do that I want to create a special place for them to cozy up and escape into the pages of a book.
I picture my students lounging on the cozy rug and reading pillows while they read and have discussions about their novels. Students will be able to use the clips board to keep their notes organized while they talk about events and characters in the book or personal experiences related to the story.
