My school implements the Reggio Emilia style of learning. We are an inquiry/project based learning school so students are encouraged to express themselves and show their learning mastery through play and art in the classroom.
I teach 1st grade at a Title I school, in which a majority of our population receives free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
My class consists of 21 six and seven year old students who are very inquisitive and eager to learn.
They are encouraged to wonder, explore, and discover through play, art, music, and dance. Student choice and leadership is an important part of our school culture thus motivating them to take ownership for their learning throughout the day.
My Project
My students need more flexible seating options to help them learn and focus better. These chairs and stool will help them be more comfortable and will keep them engaged in many different settings such as independent and partner reading, writing, choice time, and project based learning. My students really enjoy having a choice of seating especially when reading and writing. It helps keep them engaged and makes learning more fun and comfty! Having these new seating choices in our room will also be a fun incentive for good behavior. Students can be rewarded for making good choices by having time in the new seats.
