Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are learning to love curling up with a good book, but unfortunately this is a far less pleasant activity when sitting on a cold tile floor. My students and I would love your help getting a cozy floor rug for our classroom.
I am a third grade teacher with a specialization in reading and language development.
I teach in a low-income school, and more than half of my students are learning English as a second language. My students try so hard in school everyday to do their best work, and I want to ensure that my classroom is the most comfortable learning environment possible.
My Project
A rug creates a community meeting spot, which can be the most important place in the classroom. As a class, my students and I meet on the rug to exchange ideas while listening to a story, or we use it as a relaxing spot for independent or partnered reading or to play a game. A new rug for my classroom will give my students the opportunity to come together and learn in a cozy, warm area; instead of on a cold and uncomfortable tile floor.
My students are a wonderful group of children who are beginning to love literature.
I want to provide them with as much exposure as possible. I know there are many needy students and many needy classrooms all over the country, but this is MY classroom and these are MY students, and I just want to do everything that I can to make sure they succeed.
