My students need a 8x10 Safavieh California Premium Shag area rug to sit on for read aloud time and project time rather than the hard tile floor.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school. My students come from diverse backgrounds. I have eight girls and thirteen boys. Five of my students are identified as gifted and five students are identified as English as a Second Language students. Our cultural experiences and exposure to books are varied.

Our school is small for an elementary school and has limited resources for teachers.

My classroom is in a learning cottage (trailer), so we like to do activities outside. My students love to have outdoor DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time.

My Project

A nice, large area rug will give my students a soft, warm place to sit and enjoy a read aloud by the teacher. It would also provide a comfortable place for small groups to meet and work. The classroom Promethean Board is located in the part of the room that needs an area rug. We use the Promethean Board daily to show video clips to introduce lessons, to introduce students to virtual field trips, and show instructional videos.

Our current tile floor is not comfortable for students to sit on, and the tile can be cold.

An area rug would be wonderful and contribute towards a comfortable learning environment.
