Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 18 pre-kindergarten students who are all non-English speaking students and are all mostly from low-income families. They all come from homes where the parents, unfortunately, do not speak English and they do not have a role model in order to learn the English language from. My students are energetic little kids who love to learn and are very excited about being in school. However, since my students are all non-English speaking students they need a lot of visuals and hands-on activities in order to learn and make the learning process more meaningful. Also, due to the lack of knowledge from the part of the parents on how to help their children, I feel that my students needs double dosage of educational fun activities in school in order be up to par with their counterparts and succeed in school
My Project
In our classroom, we are working on expanding our library center. This is my first year as a pre-kindergarten teacher. Pre-kindergarten teachers do not receive any funds like the teachers from other grade levels in order to purchase materials. Therefore, I am left with the very difficult task of having to purchase all the materials which has not been easy considering that there are many other materials aside from books that are needed in pre-k. Therefore, I am asking for your donation in order to help build our classroom library with interesting and engaging stories geared for four and five year olds. I want to create a cozy little reading area for my students.
My students love books and listening to stories that will allow them to use their imagination to transport themselves to a world of fairy tales and happy endings.
My students all come from low income homes where unfortunately, they have no access or very little access to books or reading time at home. My students need engaging, exciting, and fantastic books that will keep them engaged during story time.
Since most of my students are not read to at home I feel that as their teacher it is my duty to immerse them in a world of books. The more they experience books the more they will gain the interest and passion for them and allow them to develop spelling, listening, writing, literacy and social skills.
Young children need to be able to experience books; they need to be able to understand and enjoy stories, books, rhymes and songs and listen and respond to them with curiosity and enjoyment. However, in order for me to be able to help my students do this I need your help in order to obtain the materials we need.
