My students need flexible seating, a timer, and flip book for a relaxed environment in which they can read, write and grow within the Speech Therapy Room. Allowing students opportunities to get out of their desks will make learning become alive.
I'm a Speech Language Pathologist working with a diverse population of students who exhibit difficulties communicating their wants and needs. Instead of speaking, they may use tears or gestures, or they will withdraw from an activity to avoid a task. My students are growing up in a low-income community with limited resources. School allows them opportunities to grow as individuals, each at their own pace. All of my students receive Speech and Language services, which support them both within the classroom and in their community.
My Project
By donating to my project, my students who struggle to sit still in a classroom will be able to sit comfortably and learn in a relaxed environment. The positive opportunities they have to read and write will strengthen their performance in small group work and carry over into their classroom. The magnetic board, sight word game, and flip book will facilitate the students reading and writing. Utilizing a timer will keep the students on pace. By providing students with the proper tools they will increase their speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, flexible seating options give students opportunities to choose their ideal learning space during independent and small group work. Research shows that students seem even happier, more engaged when learning in a relaxed atmosphere. The flexible seating will help them to focus and work harder on a given task. I want learning to be fun!
