Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low poverty area and often live in a single parent home with siblings. The students are autistic and receive instruction in a self-contained Special Education classroom. Even though they are challenging, they come to school every day eager to learn.
My students are the sweetest children and struggle with their disability every day.
Finding ways to differentiate their instruction with lack of materials is difficult. They need a lot of hands-on experiences and center-driven instruction. I love to see how excited they get when they are working on a skill and can complete it independently!
My Project
With only straight back chairs at their desks and a cold floor as seating, these seven wood slice memory foam cushions will keep my students comfy while reading. We have a tent set up in the classroom so these wood slice cushions and the cardboard fire pit will complete our reading nook "Camping" theme.
Cushions to sit on while reading will keep students comfy and encourage them to read longer.
My students don't want to spend more time sitting at their desks. These cushions can also be used anywhere in the classroom. So with your help, I can brighten up my classroom and the faces of my special education students!
