Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom at a Title I school. My students range between the ages of 3 and 5. Every day, my preschoolers come to school wearing a smile, ready to learn and play. They all come from different backgrounds and have a wide range of abilities and skills.
We love to learn through play, which stimulates a child's imagination and expands their understanding of the world.
We respect and celebrate all of the different cultures that our students come from. We create teachable moments that foster social, physical, creative, cognitive and language development of each child in their lifelong commitment to learning and independence.
My Project
The students in my classroom are still developing their frontal lobe, which is a part of the brain that is responsible for emotional expression, language, and problem-solving. Children need positive ways to express their emotions and it is amazing what kids can do for themselves and others when they have the tools and strategies to communicate effectively.
The materials in this project are meant to help children regulate their emotions and provide them with a safe place when they need to calm down or problem solve.
The play house cube will give my students a place to go when they are learning how to manage their emotions and behaviors. The emotion posters will allow teachers and students to talk about how they are feeling. The headphones can be used to block out unwanted noises when a child is feeling overstimulated. The fidgets and other tools such as the weighted blanket, bubbles, sand timer, sequin plush toy, and glitter storm set are all great tools to assist me in teaching my students how to calm their minds and their bodies.
