My Students

I am a second year teacher, anticipating the start of my next school year with very few supplies. I will be teaching in a poverty stricken neighborhood in MA, where 100% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch.

Many of my students are English Language Learners, and I want them to feel successful at all times.

There are so many things that we can use in the classroom that will aid all students, yet as teachers in a low income district, we just don't have the access to them.

My Project

My kids needs a place where they can curl up on a carpet and read when we do independent reading time. Right now they just read quietly at their desks. I think having a specific, comfortable space for them to be able to read will encourage them to want to read independently!

It's a struggle to ask 6th graders to read on their own.

They would much rather be home playing Fortnite on their phones. I want to make my classroom as comfortable and inviting as possible, and I think a cozy reading corner would really encourage my kids to enjoy their stamina reading time.
