This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a wonderful class this year! Most have already turned 5, and at this age, they say and do the most wonderful things! They really do keep me on my toes.

With 15 diverse personalities, it's not always easy to get them all to work together, but both my para and I have persevered and we can happily say ours is a harmonious classroom.

They come from all walks of life, but they all have one thing in common: they're bilingual. At only age 5, these little boys and girls are already ahead of the game.

My Project

With a mostly bilingual class, each child is at a different stage of English acquisition. Some don't speak any English at all! My goal is to help them get to a point where they can hold conversations in English with their teachers and friends.

I'd like to add a Listening Center to our Library area, giving my students a place to sit quietly and listen to CDs of some of their favorite stories.

Although I read to them regularly, this gives them a little independence, and it helps them learn and understand their second language as well as develop their reading skills.
