Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are focusing heavily on Social Emotional Learning as students have really needed extra love and support to understand their emotions and feelings this school year. We have been learning Zones of Regulations, which helps students understand that often we can feel more than one feeling at a time and that all feelings are valid. We learn strategies to help move ourselves back to the Green Zone to be ready to learn!

My students are noticeably more engaged in connecting with their feelings and less disruptive to their peers when they are given a choice of reflecting in the Cozy Corner.

We have borrowed a colleague's Cozy Corner and have filled it with soft pillows, visual emotion flashcards, fidget/sensory toys, a glitter bottle and more! My colleague needs her Cozy Corner back and my students have come to love it, so they are sad to see it go. This inspired me to write a Donors Choose project to see if we can get our very own Cozy Corner!

Students feel validated being able to spend some quiet time alone to focus on their feelings and work to get themself back into a state where they are ready to rejoin the class and learn! It's been great to see them feeling empowered and proud of themselves to do this on their own! Some students need extra support to do this, which we always provide if needed!

Having our very own Cozy Corner would make my students overjoyed!
