The students at our middle school are a very diverse group. We have many economically disadvantaged students and many transient students. Despite this, they are eager to learn and eager to improve. We are a Title I school with a population of 700 students ranging from autistic to academically gifted, as well as an ESL population. Demographically it is made up of 85 percent African American children with 100 percent of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. During this new normal of ours, we have provided devices to all of our students. Each day students are diligent about logging on and interacting with teachers and other students through Google Meet and completing assignments, quizzes, etc. through our learning platform, Canvas. We are hoping to move to a hybrid schedule by October.
These two chairs will help provide the foundation for a creative, fresher, interactive learning space for collaborative and independent reading in the library for my middle school students. These soft, plush chairs will replace the 10-year-old chairs that are currently in the library's reading area. We'll use this cleaner and more sanitary area for reading and play that will enable students to practice social/emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. Students will be able to enjoy this area before school in the mornings, during class visits, and after school.
