My students are enthusiastic and motivated learners. Each day my second graders come to school eager to learn something new and reach their goals. They are gaining independence and enjoy being role models for the kindergarteners and first graders. I am particularly excited to teach this group since I had them in kindergarten!
My students are a bright, diverse group with more than half of students from low-income households.
Because I teach in an urban school where budgets have been slashed, basic materials are needed.
The carpet I currently have has been there a while, since before I moved into this classroom. It is dirty and stained. The students don't love sitting on it which is unfortunate because we use it all day long!
Having a brand new carpet will make it much easier to motivate my students to sit during morning meeting and whole-group reading, writing, and math lessons.
I also pair up my students to do turn-and-talk during many of my lessons so having this rug with designated sections will make this process much smoother.
I am also asking for ink so that I can print out their writing so they'll be able to share their published work with their families.
