This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've yet to meet my students. This will be my first year teaching 2nd grade. I'm a new teacher moving to a new school and new grade level this year. When we go back to the classroom this fall post Covid19, I think the kids will be excited but nervous and maybe even a little scared. Things will be incredibly different for them and I want to give my students a fun, exciting classroom where they can feel safe and at home and start learning and get back to normal again.

My Project

My students will spend a great deal of time on the carpet doing mini-lessons, turning and talking, engaging in small group work and group reading time. They need a comfortable and inviting place to gather where they all have their own space that they know is theirs. The color coded rug also promotes structure, classroom management and organization which is incredibly important for learning, especially for younger students. I know that if my students have this rug it will give them an inviting space that they will want to run to everyday and enjoy their learning!
