Our Community School is a Pre-K through Grade 5 school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We serve a diverse population of students from various racial, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Our students enjoy learning together, working together and playing together in our community space.
It is our goal to meet the need of all learners and create conditions for academic and social success.
Our students sustain a sense of curiosity that is met by incorporating the community into our school to provide authentic learning experiences. We share a belief that each member of the community brings a unique set of talents and skills.
By promoting social emotional learning, our students learn to b active members of their school and home communities.
My Project
Our students spend time meeting multiple times a day in our community school setting.
This rug will allow our students to have a cozy space to learn, play and grow in our classroom community.
We will utilize the rug for morning meeting times, read aloud times, as well as mini-lessons prior to any independent practice.
Developmentally, kindergarten students need to be moving around the classroom and by having this rug, we will be meeting the needs of all students in our community.
This carpet will also allow students to have a cozy spot for their bodies, teaching them to understand their own spatial awareness.
