My Students

My first grade students always come to school with a drive to learn, despite any struggles they may have to overcome, just to get to class. I personally believe first grade is the most important year for social, emotional, and academic growth. I don't want simple classroom tools to be a roadblock to their success. All kids should have the necessary tools and supplies for first grade. Unfortunately, many of my students do not come to school with all the supplies that they need. I want my first graders to be challenged by the curriculum, not the lack of adequate supplies.

My Project

Providing students with colorful and comfortable seating will help increase their reading stamina. Our old tile floors are not the best place to get down and read an interesting book. Providing students with a comfortable environment will help them to escape into their book. I want students to be immersed into the reading experience and forget where they are. The headphones will be used in many ways. One way is with our reading intervention program which is computer based. Students will be able to focus better with headphones on. I will also use the headphones to allow children to listen to recordings of themselves reading. This will help increase student fluency and expression in reading.
