Chemistry is taken by juniors and seniors in our high school.
My in person classroom is designed to be a creative, supportive, and responsive learning environment with high standards and expectations.
I believe students can and must be active participants in their own education. My students are juniors and seniors who have elected to take Honors Chemistry because they are planning to enter an occupation in the STEM field. I love watching the aha! moments when they realize they can manipulate mass with confidence even on the nano scale!
My Project
Education in the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated virtual lab formats. The American Chemical Society views these activities as non-equivalent replacements for hands-on laboratory experiences for building quantitative reasoning, and data science literacy.
This project will give equitable access to the three basic instruments necessary to design investigations and practice lab skills using chemical processes at home.
A kitchen balance, a digital thermometer and pH paper, at a cost of $35 each kit will be checked out to the students this year to be returned at the end of their class.
