This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a dual immersion program, learning subjects in a second language, Portuguese. I have two groups of 25 brilliant students each that stay with me for half of the day. They are amazing that they can pick up and master 4th grade science and other subjects in Portuguese. I think that my students are brave to take on this huge challenge, and they deserve the best opportunities to help them to become successful.

My students are able to take the challenge of learning concepts in a second language, find solutions, and increase their horizons using their skills learned in a dual immersion program!

I have found that they learn better if there are props, demonstrations, and technology to show them the concepts such as the water cycle, weather, fossils, rocks and soils, and habitats.

My Project

These hands-on materials will help my fourth-grade students to develop STEM practices as they learn the Utah SEEd core, be engaged in class, and minimize the impact of Covid in education.

The materials in this project will help them study scientific phenomenons and be able to explain them, create models, develop arguments based on data and evidence, as they try to reproduce the phenomenons.

My students learn science in a second language and having these materials will make learning more enthusiastic and facilitate their understanding of the physical world where they live.
