Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our 130-year-old school is a small CPS school serving students in PK through 8th grade. We celebrate diversity on a daily basis and look for ways to create a positive learning environment that appeals to all types of learners. We are nestled in the amazing neighborhood, just southwest of downtown Chicago.
Physical Education is the place to be!
I believe that one of the most important things that we can teach children is how to become a healthy adult! Now more than ever my students need to focus on their physical and mental health, and I am learning new ways to connect with them everyday!
My Project
Right now my students have started their second quarter of remote learning and it has been TOUGH! Each time I see my students I have two goals in mind. First, teach students how to better their health. Second, get their bodies moving right away and for as long as I can! Physical Education may be the only time my students have an opportunity for physical activity, and I want to keep giving them new fun and exciting ways to get them moving!
Like many students and teachers my biggest challenge has been technology.
I am currently teaching 25 classes a week while using a Chromebook that is built for student use. I need a computer that can keep up with my need to multitask (stream video, take attendance, contact parents, and monitor student participation and progress). With this new piece of technology I hope to build interactive lessons about Health and Wellness that will capture student attention with platforms like Google Slides, Jamboard, Nearpod, and Loom. My hope it to keep content fresh, exciting, and relevant!
