Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are intellectually disabled, full of potential and always striving for greatness. My students are always eager to learn. They may not learn as everyone else or at the same rate as everyone else, but their drive to give their best at times is commendable.
My students love to learn, and they do not let their learning disabilities and the challenges they face at school, home, and in the community hinder them from being successful.
Our school is a Title I school in which more than ninety-five percent receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
As their teacher, I know that this is a very difficult time for my students. I want to continue to teach my students academically based skills as well as vocational skills. Continuing regular day to day work gives the students normalcy during this uncertain time. As they learn these skills, they will be better prepared for independent living, even as adults. My students rely heavily on visual supports throughout their school day and the Brother ink cartridges requested will assist in their everyday routine. They need visual schedules to help keep them on track. They also need communication boards to help them communicate their wants and needs to others. During this pandemic, I am also providing differentiated instructional paper packets for those who can not access a computer. Many of my students need visual behavior supports to help them meet behavioral expectations while completing their work. Most of our school activities require classroom sets of materials, including vocabulary boards, interactive books, and choice boards which all have to be printed in color for a real-world vision. The ink cartridges requested will allow them the opportunity to assess a successful learning environment. Donations to this project will allow my students the opportunity to learn the life skills needed for independent living. Without the help of generous donors, we cannot afford the basic supplies. My students will be able to use these supplies throughout the day. Please help me to get my students the supplies we need to be successful for the remainder of the year.
All the supplies requested are essential items for the academic growth of my intellectual disabled students.
