COVID-19 Teaching and Learning From My Home to Their Home
Help me give my students a document camera to have the ability to see what I am working on during our live lessons from my home to their homes during these crazy COVID-19 times.
I teach a self-contained CSS class of 9 autistic students. My students range in age from 9 to 12 years old. Some of my students are what I call verbal/non-verbal because they can speak to get their basic needs. The rest are verbal.
My students are amazing to be around.
They love school, and they miss being at school. One of my students still takes his backpack to the door daily because he wants to go to school. The parents are doing an amazing job with their students. I see them making sacrifices, and I see the children growing.
I want to be with them and teach them. I miss them, and they miss me. The problem is, of course, we are all at home, so I teach via the internet and video conferencing. I need a document camera that will project what I am working on so I can share it via the computer during a live or taped lesson. This will allow students to see me work and hear me discuss it as I teach the lesson.
My Project
The times, they have changed. Because of COVID-19, not only am I being forced to teach from home but my students are being forced to learn from home. I will be using this document camera to do live lessons (and recorded lessons) at my home and to project them to my computer to share with students at their homes. The ability to watch me as I write and work as I do a live lesson will not only benefit my students educationally but will also benefit them emotionally. This document camera has the potential to take a bad situation and make it as normal as possible for them.
