This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach over 600 students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. My students are diverse and eager to learn. I get excited when my students take ownership of their learning. I can see the excitement in their eyes when they are exposed to a new skill and they have that "ah-ha!" moment.
Our school is also a PBIS school.
We encourage positive behavior. Our students are more mindful of positive behavior. They show kindness, good manners, and respect for teachers and for their classmates. They respect the school rules and earn Greenwave Bucks. They purchase items from the store with their Greenwave Bucks. Seeing their faces after purchases are made is priceless.
I teach in a school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Hurricane Michael affected our school because many of our students were without lights for days. Without lights, families could not cook. Many homes were damaged, so many of our students were displaced. So school was a safe place during that time.
My Project
Schools are closed and our students need to read. They are home and we need to keep books in their hands. We know if a child continues to read, they will not fall behind. Placing books in their hands, in their homes will help strengthen their reading skills. We are trying to place books in the hands of all students grades PreK-5th grades. My plans are to have my students read to me using Zoom or Google Hangout. They can even read to me using their parent's cell phone. I just want our students reading.
