Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school, our students come from over 30 different countries such as Mexico, Yemen, Haiti, Iraq, Tibet, Ecuador, Uzbekistan and China. Over 35 different languages are spoken at our school, including French, Urdu, Polish, Fulani, Bengali, Haitian Creole and Hindi. We believe that the richness of our students' native languages and cultures are an asset to our school community. We are proud to learn from and about our unique and diverse student population.
At the our school our teaching philosophy is focused on real world content and projects-based learning.
Throughout the school year, students and teachers work collaboratively on authentic, experiential, interdisciplinary projects which are presented to fellow students, teachers and outside visitors. All students complete a twelve-week career internship in a field which they are interested. We take pride in incorporating technology across our curriculum. We have an extensively equipped media arts laboratory where students create engaging multimedia projects and films. This model of instruction helps our ELLS to develop important 21st Century Skills and college readiness.
My Project
Working in groups is a great way for all students, including students with special needs, to access content and material. Some students though, can't take the increase in volume, and may lose focus when they are challenged to complete tasks. The Safety Ear Muffs can serve as a strong tool for both students with special needs and the general education population. As a special educator, I have specific focus on students with special needs. One of my students on my caseload inspired me to get these because he often gets distracted when there is an increase in volume in the classroom due to school work.
