Help me give my students in my Turtle Habitat Club these items to help beautify our courtyard at our school. The decorative items (the statues and lights) will make a lasting impact on the appearance of our courtyard.
When you come to my school you notice something different - you notice the community. My middle school is part of a large school community that includes an elementary school and a high school. We are located in northwest Raleigh, NC. Being part of this community affords us many opportunities to support and receive support in a K-12 public school campus.
Our community works together.
Each week there are high school volunteers that invest time tutoring, mentoring and serving our middle school. In turn, our middle school students have the opportunity to tutor, mentor and volunteer at the elementary school.
There are over 980 students enrolled at my middle school. The students are typically middle class with approximately 25% of the students classified as economically disadvantaged.
The materials in this grant request will add permanent pieces of beauty to our school courtyard. Last year a group of students and staff worked to restore the courtyard as an eastern box turtle habitat. This school year we have a Turtle Habitat Club that will continue their work.
The courtyard is physically the centerpiece of our school and a newly certified nature habitat recognized by the National Wildlife Federation.
The solar lights and statuettes will add to the overall beautification of the courtyard. The trowels and bird food will help us to continue to feed our wildlife and plant some bulbs for color in the spring.
