Our school is in a high poverty area of a large urban school district. Our school in particular is almost 50% ESOL population. We service students from 36 different countries. The school is a kindergarten-8th-grade school. The students try very hard to do their best with limited English proficiency. For the most part, they pick up the English language pretty quickly. The teachers in our school do their best to assist all students.
Our team does a great job supporting these students.
My Project
Court in in session is a youth court for our school that will promote restorative behavior practices among our school community. This means that students will hold a court session for someone who was referred and decide on a "punishment" that is going to restore a positive behavior choice for the next time there is an incident.
I chose a variety of materials that will help to organize the students and keep all of the information that they will need, right at their fingertips.
Binders will hold the student code of conduct to which all students will be accountable for as well as forms they will need to fill out in regards to the case being heard. There are pens, paper and dividers to organize the binders for the information they will need for each case. This will be an important trait for them to be able to find rules in the code of conduct quickly and to be able to write down notes about each case. All of this will help them in making fair and equitable decisions.
