Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious students who are motivated to participate in their classrooms despite their speech and language difficulties. They are my model for perseverance as my students consciously raise up their level of understanding and communicating daily.
As their speech/language pathologist, I am always looking for communication strategies to inspire my students to learn strategies to comprehend information and express themselves.
I am committed to staying current on research-based strategies and effective therapy methods to help them communicate.
My Project
I will be presenting and will attend a workshop to teach and learn effectively, an evidence-based instructional approach for teaching students with speech/language disorders, dyslexia, and other reading deficits. The Courage to Risk conference is well-known for providing researched successful instructional methods for students' language and learning deficits. Receiving information training in researched methods will provide my students' real experiences with proven approaches, and allow me to deliver it to anyone in need at our school. My students will receive systematic, explicit, rigorous instruction in conjunction with activities that promote communication and literacy skill development. For many kids communicating and literacy are a mystery and a struggle. I believe that I can become a provider of valuable instruction that can bridge gaps and help overcome barriers. I look forward to learning valuable tools available at the Courage to Risk conference for the advancement of those that once may have stumbled with communication and learning skills.
The 21st Century continues to declare itself as an age of complexity and excitement.
It will require persons who are solid and confident as readers. Advancements in technology and other fields demand participants who are confident readers and who are able to navigate whatever routes are placed before them. The need for functional communication and literacy continues to increase. My project will make a difference by encouraging my students to believe in themselves as learners, communicators, and literate adults.
